Directions to Mind's Eye Yarns
COMING FROM THE NORTH:
-
Take Rt. 128 to Rt. 93 South.
-
From 93, you take the Mystic Ave Exit.
-
Bear right as you are coming off the exit and that
puts you on Mystic Ave. in Medford.
-
Take a left at the first
stoplight that you come toHarvard Street.
-
Stay on this street through
several stop lights until you come to a rotary.
This is Powderhouse Square in Somerville.
Directly across the rotary from you is a tan
one-story brick building that says Powderhouse Square on
it with a park on the other side of the street
from it. You want to go down the street between
this building and the park. It really looks
as if, before they made
the rotary, this was the original street because
it is essentially straight across the rotary
from where you come into it.
-
After several blocks you will come to another set
of lights. This is Davis Square, with another interesting intersection.
You want to go down Elm Street. There is a sign with a diagram of
the streets if you get a chance to look at it. Elm Street is a slight
bear left as you go through the intersection. Stay in the right lane
on Elm Street and watch out for pedestrians and especially double
parkers. The two lanes of the street will divide, which is why you
want to be in the right lane.
-
You will come to a set of lights where you will
go straight. You are still on Elm Street in Somerville.
-
You will come to a big parking lot on your right.
At the end of this parking lot is White Street. Turn right on White
Street and shortly you will see my sign. You can park anywhere on
the street or in my driveway which is right before the house.
-
Do not park in the big parking lot.
It is patrolled and if security sees you go into my shop, they will
tow you, laughing evilly while they do it.
FROM THE SOUTH OR WEST:
-
Take the Mass Pike toward Boston and take the Cambridge-Alston
Exit.
-
Cross the bridge (Charles River), getting into the
left lane.
-
Turn left onto Memorial Drive as soon as you are
across the river. Stay in the right lane.
-
Turn right onto JFK Street, which is the first real
intersection you'll come to. It is also (I think) the first time you
can actually turn right. The rest of the streets are one way.
-
JFK Street will bring you into Harvard Square. Go
straight and that will put you on Mass Ave. Stay in the left lane
through the Square, bearing left when the road splits. Then bear right
at the stop light. The Cambridge Common should be on your left once
you do this. You want to stay on Mass Ave and head toward Arlington.
-
When the road settles down to two lanes, move over
to the right lane. You have several blocks to do this, so no rush.
Look out for the big red windmill sculpture at the Porter Square T
station. There is a stop light right at the T station. You'll see
the Porter Square Shopping Center to your right. Go through that stop
light and to the next one, which is Beech Street. You will recognize
it by the big stone church on the corner.
-
Turn right onto Beech Street.
-
At the stop sign, turn right onto Elm Street. You
will come to the other side of the Porter Square Shopping Center parking
lot.At the end of this parking lot is White Street.
-
Turn right on White Street and shortly you will
see my sign. You can park anywhere on the street or in my driveway
which is right before the house.
-
Do not park in the big parking lot. It
is patrolled and if security sees you go into my shop, they will tow
you.
VIA PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
-
Take the Red Line to the Porter Square stop.
-
Exit the station on the right side.
-
You will see Pizzeria Uno's across the street. Walk
up the street that runs alongside Uno's.
-
You will pass Pier One Imports on your right. Just
after Pier One, you will see a pink house; this is Mind's Eye Yarns!
